Ss11 — ABSTRACT: Claire Scott
ARCHIVE | The Stratford-based artist, eco fashion designer, and creative producer, has an infectious desire to communal experiences at the intersection of visual and immersive art
WORDS BY JULIA RANEY
Walking home from work on a summer day in 2019, I noticed a group of people gathering around a clothing shop. To my surprise, they weren’t looking at the window display but at the ground. Once I pushed through the crowd, I saw what everyone was gawking at — a bright blue geometric painting of a diamond. It was unexpected, charming, and brought strangers together to experience something beautiful. That’s exactly what Claire Scott, the artist behind the piece, aims to do; using art to give people of all backgrounds memorable and immersive experiences.
Scott is an artist, eco fashion designer, creative producer, and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. Her work utilizes a strong digital strategy and street art to create moments of connection in her hometown of Stratford, Ontario. She is the Curator at York Lane Art Collective in Stratford, which aims to create experiential gallery openings through live music, theatrical performances, film screenings, drawing classes, and more. She is also the creator of an eco clothing brand, Claire Upcycled. Scott joins Cannopy Magazine to discuss how she combines visual art, inclusivity, and immersive art into her practice.
